I figured I started this blog for school/educational purposes, why not keep it up? This semester I am learning a great deal about children's literature. I am really enjoying reading the books I read as a child. For example Tiki Tiki Tembo....great folk lore about how Chinese boys got their names.
I am also involved with Flagship an after school learning environment for students. I'm in a k/1 classroom reading books and doing some sort of project on the story. This has been more of a challenge with classroom management, getting the kids excited and engaged. Classroom management has been an issue, my opinion is because they already have been in school all day, they just want to play and have fun. In a week I'm going to try to do a type of reader's theater, make it in to a PLAY and I think they will love it.
The other classes that I am observing for are a couple SPED classes, (Positive Behavioral Supports, and Methods for Low Incidence Disabilities). Both of these classes are part of the TTEAM project...Training Teachers something or other it's hard to remember. Anyway, I am really enjoying these classes and what I am learning. I have been placed out at an elementary school that has approx. 300 students k-8. I am in the special education classroom which is currently serving 26 students. Besides the drive out there, it has been a great experience. I am excited to learn more and work with one of the kiddos, to help create strategies and implement task analysis and behavioral interventions.
